DESIGNATED AGENT EMPLOYMENT VERIFICATION BASIC PILOT PROGRAM
employeescreenIQ is registered with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a Designated Agent for the Employment Verification Basic Pilot Program. This service is an enhancement to the Form I-9 process for verifying U.S. employment eligibility. The Basic Pilot program involves verification checks of the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) databases, using an automated system to verify the employment authorization of all newly hired employees. The Basic Pilot Program provides these major benefits:

  • Removes guesswork from document review during the Form I-9 process
  • Allows participating employers to confirm employment eligibility of all newly hired employees
  • Improves the accuracy of wage and tax reporting, and
  • Protects jobs for authorized United States workers

The original Basic Pilot Program was created in November 1997 but was available strictly to employers in five states at that time. The program was extended and expanded in 2003, and as of December 1, 2004, participation in the Basic Pilot Program was available to employers in all 50 states. Many employeescreenIQ clients may have been performing these checks in-house through the Basic Pilot Program, because access to the pilot program was limited to employers only.

In May 2005, DHS implemented the Basic Pilot Designated Agent program, allowing Consumer Reporting Agencies such as BIS the opportunity to perform this valuable service as a designated agent on behalf of our clients.

These important tools represent an opportunity for employeescreenIQ to streamline additional parts of the hiring process for our clients, and ensure efficiency and consistency in making the most informed hiring decisions possible. Please contact either your employeescreenIQ Customer Relations or Sales Representative for more details on either of these new services.
